What happens to our plastic?

01/11/2019

The U.S produces mind-boggling levels of trash a day, NYC alone produces 14 million tons annually. There is too much trash to go through and the separation of plastics is too time-consuming so instead of being properly dealt with our plastic is sold to other countries for profit. They are often shipped off to places like India and China and sold to the poorer individuals. This causes a lot of bottles to end up in the ocean because they fall off our ships, or these nations lose track of the sheer amount of trash they have and this ends up in our waterways. We don't even reuse our OWN plastic, we sell it at a price so low it barely breaks even with the cost of fuel to ship it overseas. The U.S. could save substantial amounts of money if we didn't ship out our water bottles and reused them instead.
